Detail from mixed media illustration
Hi there, I'm a digital mixed media illustrator living in southern Manitoba, Canada. I earned my Fine Arts Degree from the University of Manitoba in 2003, majoring in Graphic Design.
I combine my love of various art mediums; drawing, painting, collage, photography and digital art to create richly layered works with an almost tangible texture.
I draw upon nature, my personal experiences and thoughts as inspiration for my work. My work is ideal for enhancing an article, gracing the cover of a book or as a framed piece of art.
Being creative is something that I have always been passionate about. Nothing gets my blood pumping more than coming up with an exciting new idea that I must express artistically. I am inspired by the whole world around me: nature, people, music. Often an idea comes to me as an image in my head that I wasn’t even looking for. I spend some time rolling the image around in my head until I figure out a way to express it. Then I hit the sketchbook and make some simplistic (and often terrible!) drawings to work out how exactly to portray it. I keep a library of my own photos, drawings, paintings and scans to sift through and see what might work for the piece. The really exciting part begins when I start to work on it, and discover that the piece is nothing like I had imagined! I am always quite surprised at the end result, and I love the feeling that there is always a new, interesting piece of art inside of me waiting to come out.
